SCOTT'S STORY

On the 3rd of February 2011, Scott  my 17 year old son, was told he had a life threatening Cancer in his knee called Synovial Sarcoma, essentially Bone Cancer. He was treated for a sore leg for some 10 years prior to this and was always told his leg which was an old injury suffered whilst playing Rugby at 6 years old and could not be fixed. The problem started with him limping on his right leg, and grew into a life changing disability. His leg became useless, and his hip and right leg began to waste.

After many years of Physio, Counselling and treatment by numerous doctors, he finally made a decision to change doctors and seek another opinion. This proved to be a pivotal decision by Scott that would alter his life in a way he never imagined.

He was sent for a standard CT and PET and was told with these results of his pending Cancer.
This day was to change his life forever. He underwent 3 chemotherapy treatments under the care of the doctors at RPA. This was agressive treatment leaving Scott with no hair and terribly low platelets.

After the 3 chemotherapy treatments, it was deemed that the Cancer was halted in its growth and it was decided at this stage that Scott would have his right leg removed about 6 inches below his hip.
This radical surgery was to save Scott's life literally, as whilst ever the 7cm cancer remained in his knee and upper thigh bone, the threat was too great of reoccurance.

During Scott's treatment and testing, it was also discovered that Scott had lesions in both his lungs. These also have to be removed before the last 2 chemotherapy treatments are done.

On June 14th, 2011 Scott will undergo radical surgery once more to remove the lesions from his lungs. This will be 2 separate operations, one for each lung. The doctors have told Scott that this will be a larger procedure than the removal of his leg, and he will have to undergo this twice.

Scott also needs to get a prosthetic leg, and hence the reason for this blogg.  We are raising money to help fund the provision for Scott to have a proper functioning leg, and he will require these to be replaced every 3 years as he grows.

Aside from all you have read about Scott above, I also need to mention that Scott's Father was diagnosed with advanced Melanoma 2 years ago and has also undergone radical treatment for life threatning Cancer. He remains currently in remission.
